One of the three bikes Nate races, a BMW R1200S, with its tire warmers readying it for a race. One of the three bikes was out of commission after a crash in the practice lap on Saturday morning. Nate explained that one of the certified BMW mechanics at Mainline BMW failed to properly seat an oil filter, and by the time Nate noticed it and had it fixed, damage had been done to the engine's innards. He said he was doing about 100 mph going into Turn 3, wound out in third gear and totally leaned over, when the engine seized and the rear wheel locked up, sending the bike -- and him -- into a high-speed, tumbling crash! I was glad we missed that. Still he was racing that afternoon!
